A question we often get asked: What’s the difference between Secret RF and Morpheus 8?

 We will discuss some of the key differences and the reasons why we opted for Secret RF over Morpheus 8 at Northshore Laser & Vein Center.

Both are microneedling devices that deliver radio frequency into the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production, as a result, tightening, brightening and improving the texture of the skin. This is delivered by the machines hand-piece inserting a number of tiny needles into the skin which then produce thermal energy.

Both the Morpheus 8 and Secret RF can target different depths within the skin however, unlike the Morpheus 8 which can change depth in mm, the Secret RF has the ability to change depth per 500 microns – that’s super accurate control! We can  change depth with the simple touch of the screen and can therefore target multiple skin complaints in one session.

Because of the accurate control, Secret RF is suitable for all skin types unlike many other RF treatments which aren’t suitable for darker skin types.

 Let’s talk needles

The needles on both machines are surgical grade, gold plated micro needles that sit in a grid pattern. The Morpheus 8 has 24 which is no comparison to the 64-pin head on the Secret RF. Because of this we can complete the treatment faster and with better coverage.  When we use insulated needles, we can protect the epidermis and the shallow dermis from the heat from the RF needle which is especially important in individuals who tan easily or have skin of color. By using the insulated needles in these darker skin types, we can significantly reduce the chance of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)

How many sessions will I need?

Although good results can potentially be seen after 1 session, Cutera recommend a course of 3, 4-6 weeks apart. Some people choose to have yearly sessions after this to maintain the results, others may choose to book another course. Treatment plans will be tailored to suit your concern.

Does Secret RF treat darker skin?

Yes. Secret RF is suitable for all skin types. When treating darker skin tones we are able to switch to semi-insulated needles to avoid hyperpigmentation.

Will I need to book time off work post treatment?

No. Downtime consists of some redness of the area treated (similar to sunburn) for 12-24 hours following treatment. Make-up can be worn as soon as 12 hours after treatment.

Does it hurt?

We will apply numbing cream and leave this on for 30-40mins before your treatment begins, however, you should expect to feel some discomfort. The procedure will take about 20mins.

How soon will I see results?

With any treatment that is using your bodies response to make improvements it takes time. Secret RF is in that category. Results can start to be seen 8 weeks after the first session and final results will be seen 12 weeks after your course.
